Position Summary

This position manages all aspects of the Engineering Services and Electrical units to include but not limited to, coordination of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and electrical activities, continuous improvement, determining staffing requirements, mentoring employees, and evaluating operational effectiveness. The incumbent is responsible for evaluating the use of resources to improve efficiencies; assisting with the development of plans and specifications for mechanical, electrical and other supporting infrastructure projects; providing guidance in the implementation of energy conservation strategies; ensuring appropriate safety training is conducted; and providing guidance to all direct reports and their staff.

FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation under FLSA). This position is benefits-eligible.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,750.00 - $11,146.00 per month 

Hiring Range: $8,000.00 - $9,000.00 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with other hours as required. Position works on-site.

Department Information 

Plant Operations encompasses the Central Plant and Electrical Services.

The Central Plant building is the heart of the campuses heating and air conditioning system. Within the building our equipment produces steam and chilled water which is then circulated across the campus through a network of below and above ground piping. Once the steam and chilled water enters the buildings, a series of pumps, valves, and fans are operated by an automated, computerized system. The system works to maintain a balance between building occupant comfort and energy efficiency. However, not all of the campus is served by the Central Plant. There are boilers and air conditioning units located in other facilities around the campus.

Required Qualifications 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Management or a closely related field. The degree requirement may be substituted for a combination of supervisory experience in a related field, formal training in a related field, professional credentialing, and certifications such as Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA), Credential for Educational Facilities Professionals10(CEFP) or Educational Facilities Professionals (EFP), or International Facility Management Association (IFMA), Facility Management Professional (FMP) or Certified Facility Manger (CFM).
  2. Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the installation, operation and repair of mechanical and/or electrical systems in an industrial, governmental, or commercial setting.
  3. Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory or management capacity along with leadership or supervisory training.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  1. Working knowledge of centralized computer building automation and/or energy management systems.
  2. Strong computer skills and familiar with a variety of software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  3. Knowledge of Cal-OSHA, Injury Illness Prevention Programs, National Electric Code, Uniform Building Code.
  4. Working knowledge of asbestos abatement activities and hazardous materials management.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications 

8. Experience developing and implementing energy conservation projects.

9. Experience managing a Central Plant with large chillers and steam boilers.

10. Four (4) years or more of management experience.
