Position Summary
The Director of the Campus Applications Team (CAT) reports to the AVP for Planning and Digital Transformation and serves as a key member of the IRT Leadership Team. The Director provides strategic and operational leadership for enterprise applications, databases, and digital platforms that enable Sacramento State’s academic and administrative mission.


This role oversees the full lifecycle of campus applications with a focus on sustainability, continuous improvement, and innovation. The Director is responsible for advancing digital transformation initiatives—including electronic forms, workflow automation, and document management—while leading modernization of campus data platforms and infrastructure. The position provides technical and programmatic direction for enterprise cloud systems, CRM adoption, AI enablement, and other campus-wide digital initiatives.
The Director also manages IRT’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) planning, ensuring resilience and preparedness for critical services. Leading a team of Analyst Programmers, Database Administrators, and Information Technology Consultants, the Director fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment to deliver reliable, secure, and forward-looking technology solutions that align with the University’s strategic priorities.

Note: All IRT employees should be familiar with the mission of the University, the University Strategic Plan, and the campus information technology strategic plan.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $11,500.00 per month - $13,500.00 per month commensurate with the candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,053.00 per month - $16,221.00 per month

Department Information 

Who is IRT? 
Information Resources & Technology (IRT) partners with faculty, staff, and students to provide essential information technology services that support mission critical activities and innovative technology solutions that facilitate the accomplishment of strategic campus goals at Sacramento State.  

Required Qualifications 
  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or discipline; or equivalent experience/training.
  2. At least 5 years of experience in an IT leadership role involving application and database management.
  3. Demonstrated experience with supervision, delegation, coaching, and performance management.
  4. Demonstrated experience successfully managing complex projects, prioritizing based on strategic goals, and meeting deadlines.
    Demonstrated experience with leading change/effective change management.
  5. Demonstrated experience with applications in the current portfolio such as: CRMs, Cloud Data Modernization software, Communication Campaign applications, Astra, OnBase, StarRez, CashNet, T2, GoAnywhere, Boomi Integration, Acrobat Sign, Blackboard Transact, AcademicWorks, and AiM. Supported databases include Oracle and MS SQL.
  6. Demonstrated experience with business process analysis and process improvement.
  7. Knowledge of database concepts.
  8. Familiarity with application and database security standards.
  9. Demonstrated ability to gather metrics and provide reports as requested.
  10. Effective communication skills.
  11. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. Master’s degree or equivalent post-graduate work
  2. Experience working in higher education.
  3. Experience working in campus-wide IT organization.
  4. Experience with OnBase workflow software.
  5. Relevant certifications such as Project Management Professional
  6. Experience leading data platform modernization using tools like Snowflake, Databricks or other cloud data management platforms.
  7. Experience making applications accessible to faculty, staff, or students with disabilities related to Section 508 standards
  8. Experience developing clear and comprehensive service and support procedures with associated documentation
  9. Experience in evaluation of enterprise applications for procurement
  10. Familiarity with AI/ML tools or platforms in a higher ed or enterprise context
  11. Demonstrated experience leading and developing other leaders and staff in a collective bargaining environment.
  12. Experience managing CRM lifecycle and implementation in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment (e.g., CRM related to Prospective Student, Applicants, Student Success, Philanthropic efforts etc.).
  13. Demonstrated experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and maintenance contracts.
