Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Grounds and Custodial Services, the Custodial Manager is responsible
for overseeing and managing the daily custodial operations, including planning, coordinating, and ensuring the effective
delivery of cleaning services. This role requires independent scheduling, assignment, inspection, and evaluation of
custodial work to maintain clean and well-kept facilities. The role serves as the primary point of contact for the
custodial department during daytime operations and is responsible for addressing operational needs, making necessary
adjustments, and ensuring custodial standards are met.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,644 per month - $5,926 per month, commensurate with the candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,135 per month - $12,288 per month

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., with the ability to work early morning hours, extended afternoons, and weekends.

Department Information 

Custodial Services is responsible for cleaning activities in all general-fund supported university facilities. This professional staff maintains a safe and healthy setting for students, faculty, staff and guests in pursuit of our education mission. Typical services include:

  • Carpet cleaning & spot removal
  • Sanitizing
  • Floor care
  • Stocking sanitary supplies
  • Collecting and disposing of refuse
  • Emergency cleanups

Required Qualifications 

1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent work experience.

2. Thorough knowledge of custodial equipment and the ability to teach and train a large diverse staff on the
proper and safe use of associated equipment.

3. Must have thorough knowledge of modern custodial cleaning methodologies/operations and the ability to
teach and train a large diverse work force.

4. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License, a safe driving record, and must possess the ability to follow
all campus driving ordinances.

5. Must have working knowledge of desktop PC software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and
email, and thorough knowledge of the maintenance management system (AiM), which includes work order
creation, closing and current schedule monitoring.

6. Must be able to communicate and follow instructions, to include instructions on daily calendars, space
reservations forms, communication logs, IIPP Safety information, work orders, product labels, MSD sheets,
schedules and job descriptions.

7. Must be able to work collaboratively with a diverse campus community of students, faculty and staff.

8. Must be able to communicate effectively using all available technology.

9. Must be able to remain calm and poised even during stressful situations.

10. Must possess excellent customer service skills.

11. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and
constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.

Preferred Qualifications 

12. Extensive knowledge in custodial cleaning methodologies/operations; solving problems; understanding
workflow procedures, encouraging staff.

13. Ten (10) years of custodial experience.
