Position Summary

Under general direction from the Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs, the Partnerships Specialist is charged securing financial support for Sacramento State Athletics through partnerships. The incumbent develops the partnerships plan, monitors goals, quantifiable objectives, and adjusts strategies for achievement. They also serve as the liaison to on-campus partners.

The incumbent independently develops and coordinates the execution of strategic plans for partners with traditional, digital and other non-traditional media opportunities to bolster their own brand and garner maximum exposure through inventory such as venue signage; digital engagement including social media, the official athletics website, content, digital gaming and retargeting, event sponsorships and promotion; corporate hospitality.

The ideal incumbent is self-motivated, creative, thrives under pressure, results-driven, able to handle rejection, and believe in the mission of Sacramento State Athletics. The incumbent travels locally and nationally; and regular attendance at evening and weekend athletic activities and donor events.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $ 5,053.00 per month - $ 6,126.00 per month plus bonus incentives*

CSU Classification Salary Range: $ 5,053.00 per month - $ 16,221.00 per month

Department Information

The program of Intercollegiate Athletics is organized and conducted as an integral part of the total educational program of the University. Academic excellence and athletic accomplishments go hand in hand at Sacramento State. There are three separate and unique missions in this program: to contribute to the educational objectives of the University; to provide a healthy, competitive athletic experience to individual student-athletes; to serve as a public relations vehicle within the community.

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics offers both academic courses and an intercollegiate athletics program. Academic courses offer the opportunity for individuals to gain knowledge and understanding in a particular area of expertise related to intercollegiate athletics.

Required Qualifications 
  1. Experience in Annual Fund development or comparable partnership development or sales experience
  2. Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising and ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle
  3. Ability to initiate contact via phone to set meetings with donors, partners and prospects
  4. Strong communication skills, including the ability to write proposals and accompanying materials to individual donors, as well as the ability to listen carefully and patiently to prospects and donors
  5. Ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders across many demographics
  6. Results-driven; willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish the goal
  7. Strong focus on quality of work and attention to detail
  8. Excellent time management and follow-up skills
  9. High level of initiative, specifically in the areas of sales generation and process improvement
  10. Ability to work well under deadline and to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  11. Ability to establish and achieve quantified objectives
  12. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  13. Ability to motivate and lead others
  14. Ability to work nights and weekends
  15. Ability to travel around the region and to other areas of the country

  1. A Master’s degree
  2. Experience in Intercollegiate Athletics
  3. Two or more years of experience working at a NCAA Division I Institution
  4. Two or more years developing and implementing strategies for fundraising or partnerships
  5. Experience in Athletic Partnership Development
