Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director, Digital Learning & Technology Solutions, the incumbent will provide timely information technology solutions for the College of Continuing Education (CCE). The IT Service Consultant will work closely with the Digital Learning and Technology Solutions team, the Dean’s office, and CCE’s program and operational service areas to identify innovative and efficient technical solutions and strategically implement the technical infrastructure for the future growth and success of the college.
 
Incumbent is responsible for maintaining college computer systems and ensuring maximum availability and reliability; supporting hardware and software technologies employed by CCE; working with CCE team members to research, develop, and implement systems and processes to enable the college’s technological growth and development; providing technical training to users; and providing computer-related customer service to CCE staff, faculty, and students.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,158 per month - $8,943 per month (Anticipated hiring range commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.)

Work hours are established within CCE's operating hours of Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Department Information 

The College of Continuing Education (CCE) extends the mission of the university by increasing access for non-traditional learners. With a primary expertise on serving adult learners, CCE provides programs and services to individuals and employers year-round, unbound by traditional semester schedules and formats. CCE serves a hybrid student body that extends beyond California, serving over 80,000 learners annually through in-person, hybrid and fully online workshops, courses, conferences, certificate and degree programs.

Minimum Qualifications 

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.
Further progress within this classification is based on department need and work assignments requiring higher levels of skills and knowledge.

Required Qualifications 

EXPERIENCE

  1. Demonstrated experience installing, troubleshooting, and configuring desktop operating systems, such as Windows 11 and Mac OS.
  2. Experience maintaining accurate inventory records of office and/ or computer equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  1. Demonstrated ability to function at the Information Technology Consultant-Career skill level, including ability to independently apply technical judgment to both standard and non-standard data applications and systems, solve a wide range of problems, develop practicable and thorough solutions, and use effective communication and listening skills.
  2. Ability to work independently on computer systems to provide solutions to College system issues and individual user needs; interpersonal or communication skills in working with users to interpret needs and deliver appropriate IT solutions and troubleshooting in a team environment.
  3. Demonstrated technical writing skills, including the ability to document resolutions, processes, and outcomes in reports, checklists, and knowledgebase articles.
  4. Demonstrated ability to maintain materials, inventory, and technical references and administer facility and system security practices.
  5. Demonstrated ability to configure, modify, and troubleshoot mobile technologies, understanding of a wide array of mobile technologies.
  6. Demonstrated ability to assist or lead others in completing work assignments and projects, including the ability to provide basic work direction and training.
  7. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. Experience working in a higher education system with computer lab technologies, audio video, distance learning systems and presentation technologies.
  2. General experience in the development and implementation of software system rollout strategies, change management, and training of end users.
