Anticipated Hiring Range
$3,736.00 - $4,044.00 Monthly ($44,832.00 - $48,528.00 Annually)
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Irrigation Specialist maintains and repairs grounds irrigation systems including modification of existing systems and the planning, cost estimating, and installation of new systems.
The Irrigation Specialist performs specialized work on irrigation systems in grounds areas for a major portion of the incumbent’s work time. Incumbents in the Groundsworker classification or other grounds classifications may maintain sprinkler heads, make minor repairs to sprinkler lines, set clocks on automatic control devices in an assigned area of the campus on an occasional basis, and occasionally assist an Irrigation Specialist in specialized irrigation system maintenance work.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of the soil conditions of the various areas of campus; climate of the area in which the campus is located; and the mechanical principles of sprinkler equipment. General knowledge of the kinds of sprinkler control devices and irrigation equipment available on the market.
- Abilities:
Ability to plan, estimate costs, and install or modify irrigation systems for particular sections of the campus; repair and maintain existing irrigation systems; operate equipment, such as small trench-diggers; provide lead work direction to others; and read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
- Experience:
Two years of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or general grounds, with one year in the maintenance, repair, or modification of irrigation systems and irrigation equipment.
- License:
Some positions may require possession of a valid California driver’s license.

- CIT: Certified Irrigation Technician
- CLIA: Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor
- CID: Certified Irrigation Designer
- CLWM: Certified Landscape Water Manager
- Certified Backflow Tester
Required/License/Certification
- Possess a valid California Driver’s License; comply with the Defensive Drivers Training program requirements if a vehicle is used to travel on official business.
- This person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
Environmental/Physical/Special
- Moderate to heavy physical tasks
- Must be able to lift in excess of 75 pounds
- Majority of work will be outdoors and in inclement weather
- Required to wear a uniform that is used by the department
- Required to carry a department-provided mobile phone and answer calls during the work schedule
