Position Summary

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Advancement Services and Prospect Management reports to the Vice President of University Advancement and is a senior leader in the division of University Advancement. The AVP provides direction and leadership to key fundraising service areas including database management, reporting and analysis, prospect management, and financial services support for the University Foundation Board at Sacramento State, while ensuring compliance with institutional, CSU, and regulatory organization guidelines. The AVP cross-collaborates with team members, Foundation leadership and internal end-users to strategically align available resources to create data-driven solutions and help achieve institutional goals.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime) 

Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,250 - $13,000 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,250 - $20,063 per month

Department Information 

Advancement Services and Stewardship is instrumental to Sacramento State's ability to achieve its outreach, fundraising, event, and stewardship goals. We manage information to better support engagement and fundraising efforts with alumni, faculty and staff, friends, and the community. Our team manages, analyzes, and leverages the data needed to inform organizational strategy through prospect research and management. We are responsible for processing, recording, and acknowledging all philanthropic gifts and for thanking and celebrating the commitments that donors make to Sacramento State.

Required Qualifications 

Experience

  1. Seven years or more of progressively responsible experience in university advancement or advancement services, specific to data analysis skills, prospect management or research, and advancement services.
  2. The successful candidate must have a proven track record of successfully working with donors and boards, and a strong understanding of board regulations and reporting. Experience in successful relationship building with volunteers, and board members, and in board governance.
  3. Expert level computer skills in Microsoft Office and in-depth knowledge of and experience with databases management and system integrations.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  1. In-depth understanding of database programs and best practices on oversight of systems and strategic approach to system use and implementation.
  2. Knowledge of complex and comprehensive fundraising programs in an academic environment.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate about the institution’s management of endowments and other funds.
  4. Ability to work efficiently as a team leader, and contribute to a collaborative environment utilizing exemplary communication and problem-solving skills, as necessary.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills and highly developed sense of protocol. Ability to establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents.
  6. Must demonstrate integrity and sound judgment in performing duties.
  7. Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously, adjusting quickly to changes needed on a daily basis.
  8. Ability to supervise the work of staff and recommend appropriate personnel actions; be able to apply strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills and train and evaluate performance, taking corrective action as needed.
  9. Must demonstrate integrity and sound judgment in performing duties.
  10. Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment and stressful situations while maintaining composure and while effectively meeting objectives
  11. Strong written, oral and presentation skills, and ability to accept constructive feedback and work cooperatively in group situations.
  12. This position requires evening and weekend on-call responsibilities. The position also requires possession and maintenance of a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record.

  2. Experience in higher education fundraising is highly desired.
  3. Minimum three years of management experience.
