Position Summary

Incumbent independently performs a variety of semi-skilled facilities and systems maintenance functions as well as works under the direction of journey-level crafts worker.  A significant portion of the assigned work will involve roof maintenance and hardscape repairs. Incumbant may also serve in a supporting role of other work assigned to the Multicraft shop that does not require the oversight of a journey-level crafts worker.

FLSA: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime compensation under FLSA). Position is benefits-eligible.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,722.00 - $5,939.00 per month 

Hiring Range: $4,722.00 - $5,026.00 per month

Department Information 

The Multi-craft Shop fulfills a dual role in maintaining and repairing basic components of all campus buildings such as foundations, walls, roofs, stairs, ceilings, floors, floor coverings, wall coverings, doors, hardware, sidewalks, streets, and auxiliary facilities or equipment. Also provides project management for small renovations and semi-large projects. Requested services not covered by Executive Order No.847 are available under a cost recovery process.

Minimum Qualifications 

Knowledge - Work requires working knowledge of the common terminology, methods, practices, tools and procedures related to building and facilities services, maintenance and repair and/or a base knowledge of a building/construction or mechanical trade.

Abilities - Must be able to perform proficiently a variety of semi-skilled facilities maintenance and repair tasks; operate all applicable tools, equipment and systems; follow standard written instructions and procedures; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; perform simple arithmetic calculations as required by the position; and demonstrate the ability to learn maintenance and repair functions. All positions require the performance of strenuous manual labor.

Experience - These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of experience and training equivalent to six months of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, or six months of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair work.

Required Qualifications 

Required: Must be comparable to the Minimum Qualifications, appropriate to the skill level of the position, and would allow an incumbent to satisfactorily perform the Essential Functions of the position.

  1. Demonstrate an ability to work outdoors and on the rooftops conducting maintenance and repairs
  2. Knowledge and experience with remodel tear-down and set-up
  3. Making simple interior and exterior repairs of buildings and furniture
  4. Maintain records and retrieve data using record-keeping systems
  5. Prepare standard reports
  6. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and a safe driving record
  7. Ability to evaluate and respond appropriately to emergency situations
  8. Ability to provide excellent customer service and work cooperatively with a diverse campus population

Conditions of Employment

Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications 

9. The ability and willingness to perform asbestos, lead, and mold abatement if given the proper training.

10. The ability to pass appropriate OSFM certification exams for Fire Extinguisher inspections.

CA Drivers License and maintenance of safe driving record
