Position Summary

Under general work direction from the Senior Lead, and with supervision provided by the Director, Educational Equity Access/Equity Strategist, the Enrollment Management/EOP Outreach Coordinator provides outreach and enrollment services to low socio-economic and first generation prospective students and assists with seamless transitions to Sacramento State for students from the K-12/community colleges. The incumbent provides individual and group educational advisement and guidance information to students and develops, implements, and creates solutions to complex student problems and concerns as related to the stated population. This position works collaboratively across organizational lines to integrate long term solutions to student issues and concerns. The incumbent applies and clarifies complex university policies and procedures for admissions, financial aid, residency, housing, testing, graduation and other student support services. Incumbent serves on the Summer Bridge Academy implementation committee, as well as other outreach-related committees. In addition, the incumbent serves on the campus enrollment management team as the designee for the Associate Vice President, Student Retention and Academic Success.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,025 - $7,159 per month 

Hiring Range: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) serves California residents from low-income households who demonstrate the motivation and potential to earn a baccalaureate degree. EOP students are individuals who have the potential to succeed at Sacramento State but have not been able to realize their goal for higher education because of economic and/or educational background. Minimum Qualifications 

Knowledge and Abilities:

The following knowledge and abilities as well as those listed at the lower levels in the Student Services Professional series are required for appointment into this classification.

Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.

Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student‑related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.

Experience:

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.

A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

Required Qualifications 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Experience in higher education outreach and enrollment management
  2. Experience working with an Educational Opportunity program or similar program
  3. Experience working with students dealing with highly sensitive issues
  4. Experience with and/or a general understanding of program coordination

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. General knowledge of policies, programs, and services of the Educational Opportunity Program
  2. Knowledge of the CSU Admissions processes and criteria
  3. Understanding of group/individual behavior, particularly as it applies to low-income/first generation college students and their families
  4. Ability to research, assemble, and analyze complex data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations
  5. Ability to develop solutions to student issues/concerns and integrate creative approaches across organizational lines
  6. Effective verbal and written communication skills
  7. Ability to conduct workshops designed to provide comprehensive academic-related information
  8. Demonstrated ability to work in teams and establish and maintain productive, cooperative working relationships
  9. General advising skills
  10. Proficiency using Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  11. Ability to Travel

Condition of Employment:

Ability to pass a background check.

  1. Master’s degree
  2. Knowledge of General Education in the California State University system
  3. Experience working with low-income/first generation students and their families
