Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Vice President for Administration/CFO, the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management is the key University officer responsible for Facilities Management and a critical member of senior administration working in support of the overall academic mission of the University. The incumbent has primary management and leadership responsibility for facilities planning, construction, operation, maintenance and repair, management of building space, and oversees over 200 employees. The AVP plays an instrumental role in cross-functional future planning, as well as the maintenance of strong relations with the CSU Chancellor’s Office, city, county, and other agencies.

The Associate Vice President serves on University and system committees and acts as liaison to the system office for planning, design and construction projects. The position represents the University for facilities matters at city, county, and state government levels and to the legislative branches of government.

FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation under FLSA). This position is benefits-eligible.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,250 - $20,063 per month 

Hiring Range: Dependent on qualifications, monthly salary not anticipated to exceed $16,000.

The salary is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a California State University Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position with an attractive package, which includes but is not limited to: a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month; 14 paid holidays; excellent choice of medical, dental, and vision insurance, long-term disability coverage, life insurance; and retirement benefits.

Department Information 

Facilities Management is the steward for the university buildings, infrastructure, grounds and landscape. The unit perform maintenance and renovation to facilities, plan and manage new building construction and support the Redefine the Possible initiative through our commitment to building a welcoming campus and by creating a dynamic physical environment for students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Required Qualifications 

Education:

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, Construction, or a field related to the responsibilities of the position.

Experience:

  1. Extensive facilities management experience acquired through increasingly responsible positions over a period of at least 8 years in a college/university or comparable environment of similar size and complexity.
  2. Financial management experience overseeing complex budgets with various funds.
  3. Experience as a supervisor or manager in a large and complex organization
  4. Experience coordinating with multiple entities to accomplish master plans and multiple and complex construction projects from conception to completion in a centralized and highly regulated environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of physical plant operations and construction management requirements.
  2. Leadership skills, including conflict resolution skills.
  3. Organizational skills.
  4. Possess well-developed analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Exceptional interpersonal skills, including cross-departmental collaboration, to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  7. Knowledge of process improvement and ability to streamline operations, promote cultural change, and build teams through redesign of business practices.
  8. Skills to assess the performance and progress of teams and organizations.

Preferred Qualifications 

14. Master’s degree or higher in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, Construction, or a field related to the responsibilities of the position.

15. Experience in a large, complex higher education institution within a centralized system.

16. Experience within the California State University system and familiarity with CSU system reporting requirements.

17. Ability to adapt easily to fast-paced, demanding environment on a growing campus with evolving needs and limited resources.

18. Understanding of information system technology as it applies to administrative and physical plant operations.
