POSITION TITLE: Industrial-Organizational Psychology Assistant Professor


The Psychology Department at Sacramento State has 26 tenure-track faculty as well as multiple lecturers who serve more than 1,400 undergraduate majors and more than 50 graduate students. The Psychology Department features individual faculty research space, a psychological/behavioral services clinic, computer labs, technical/instructional support, and a small animal vivarium. The Psychology Department has a strong and ongoing relationship with the university’s Community Engagement Center and Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as multiple local schools and community partners. Through teaching, scholarship, and service we promote human equity, health and well-being, effective functioning, and respect for diversity. Our undergraduate program is designed to give all students a well-rounded education in the discipline of psychology, as well as to provide a strong preparation for those who seek advanced study in psychology. Students who successfully complete our program receive a Bachelor of Arts degree. In addition to the undergraduate major, the Psychology Department offers an undergraduate certificate in behavior analysis and master's programs in applied behavior analysis, general psychology, and industrial-organizational psychology.

The Psychology Department is housed in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, consisting of 11 academic departments, four independent and interdisciplinary academic programs, and several centers and institutes.  The College is a congenial and cohesive unit both academically and administratively.


This is an Assistant Professor tenure-track position beginning with the Fall 2023 semester. Salary will be dependent upon qualifications and professional experience.


  1. Demonstrate a genuine interest in high quality teaching and mentoring of a diverse body of students.
  2. Teach undergraduate and graduate industrial-organizational psychology courses as well as other courses within their area of expertise, with emphasis on quality and inclusivity.  
  3. Develop a focused and productive program of research in industrial and/or organizational psychology that demonstrates inclusivity in the involvement of students and respect for diversity in the content and/or focus of the research topics.
  4. Participate in ongoing discussions regarding the industrial and organizational psychology curriculum at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  5. Supervise Master’s level students in industrial-organizational psychology.
  6. Provide advising to a diverse body of undergraduate Psychology majors from a variety of backgrounds.
  7. Provide service to the department, college, University, and community.


  1. Ph.D. from an accredited university with a research and teaching focus in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, with specific subdiscipline open. ABD applicants will be considered.  If ABD, all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by January 2024.
  2. Evidence of developing research in the psychological study of work-related topics.
  3. Evidence of high-quality teaching and/or mentoring diverse students.
  4. Interest in curriculum and program development for training of students in industrial-organizational psychology.
  5. Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity in pedagogy/educational practices.
  6. Ability to work collegially in a multicultural environment.


  1. Teaching experience in industrial and/or organizational psychology courses at the college level.
  2. Background in talent management and/or performance management
  3. Training and experience in using a wide variety of teaching methodologies and perspectives that integrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice issues in the curriculum.
  4. Demonstrated ability or interest in high impact teaching practices which connect students and the community, such as service learning, curricular community-engaged learning, and/or academic internships.
  5. Demonstrated ability or interest in conducting research in partnership with local community organizations, government agencies, or private organizations.

  • a statement of research interests;
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations of teaching, sample course materials and/or evidence of relevant training and experiences, etc.)
  • Evidence of research experience (e.g., reprints, preprints, grant applications, etc.)
