Position Summary
Under the general direction of Student Health and Counseling Services, direct supervision from Associate Athletics Director of Sports Medicine, Head Athletic Trainer, Team Physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel, incumbent will educate student-athletes, and athletics in related health care administration; assist with the leadership and coordination of Sac State’s overall sports medicine program, including, but not limited to injury prevention, evaluation, management, and treatment of injuries, short-term and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Other responsibilities of the AT II are to take a high-risk sport. The ability to communicate at a high level and handle the pressures associated with DI athletics.
The appropriate candidate must have experience in mentoring staff members and assisting with professional development. Experience in taking on lead administrative responsibilities or chairing various committees (ordering, budget, preparticipation physicals). Knowledge and advanced experience in DEI and Mental Health Suicide Prevention Training is essential for this position. Advanced skill, knowledge, and expertise in handling the majority of post-operative rehabilitations is required. Advance certifications and experience in prevention of injury is a requirement.
The Athletic Trainer II will assist with the establishment of the athletic program budget; establishment of the Sports Medicine’s policies and procedures; ensures compliance with provisions of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as well as compliance with HIPAA and OSHA Standards.
FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime)
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,833 per month - $6,667 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training
CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,158 - $8,058 monthly

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of the Athletic Trainer I.
Abilities:
Ability to demonstrate full-to-advanced proficiency in the skills and abilities of the Athletic trainer I; demonstrate the leadership, organizational, and administrative skills involved in coordinating an athletic training and sports medicine program.
Experience:
Equivalent to two years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment.
Education:
Equivalent to bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology, or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
License and Certifications:
Possess and maintain Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer. Some positions may require a valid California driver's license.
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree or higher, preferable in Athletic Training from an Accredited University
- Minimum two years Athletic Training experience in DI high risk sports or professional sports DI football/ Basketball
- Chair or take on lead administrative duties
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Experience and expertise in electronic medical record system
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Evidence of strong commitment to student athlete welfare and diversity
- Evidence and ongoing education in DEI.
- Ability to take on administrative duties.

- Ability to provide leadership to AT1s.
- Advance certification and knowledge in injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Advanced experience in rehabilitation of post-operative surgeries; upper and lower extremity.
- Advanced experience and knowledge in concussion evaluation and clearance process.
- Advanced experience and education in Mental Health Illness and suicide prevention training.
- Advanced ability to lead staff members, take on administrative roles and work with a high-risk DI team (football or MBB).
- Advance training and experience with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Mental Health and Nutrition.
- Ability to work with campus partners.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Organizational and advanced skills in documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with coaches, administrators, physicians, and student athletes.
- Possess and maintain Board of Certification (NATABOC) certification for the certified athletic trainer.
- Certification in functional movement screen (examples: FMS or SFMA).
- Possess current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
Conditions of Employment: Ability to pass a background check.
- Master’s Degree in Athletic Training from an Accredited University.
- Experience Working with Electronic Health Records.
