Position Summary

Under the general oversight of the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services (AVP EMSS), the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships is responsible for the leadership and management of all institutional, federal, and state financial aid programs and the oversight of the central scholarship office. This includes the management of awarding financial aid in excess of $300 million annually to over 70% of the 31,000 student population and monitoring federal, state, institutional and other external policies and procedures to ensure compliance.

The Director of Financial Aid and Central Scholarships oversees the full-time staff and oversees the operations of the Financial Aid office which includes financial aid education offered through individual counseling, campus-wide informational campaigns and group presentations, cross department partnership. The Director serves as a resource to the campus community and department staff and assists with elevated issues for students and their families to identify, apply, receive and maintain eligibility for various types of financial assistance.

The Director of Financial Aid oversees the Central Scholarships team.  The Central Scholarship Office is charged with the developing and implementation of the university wide scholarship program, processes, and timelines.  The goal is to spend over 90% or more of available student funds each academic year by partnering with University Colleges stakeholders and University Advancement. 

This position serves as an active member of the Student Affairs Leadership team and the Enrollment Management Directors team to develop and execute strategic plans that align fiscal and personnel resources with the goals of the Enrollment Management Unit, the Division of Student Affairs and the University.

FLSA: Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,250 - $18,750 monthly

Hiring Range:  $8,000 - $12,000 monthly, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Our mission is to help students and their families search for, apply, receive and maintain eligibility for various types of financial aid. Financial aid education is offered through individual counseling, campus marketing activities and group presentations. Staff also undertakes research and resolution of individual student issues. The office strives to provide timely and accurate financial aid processing that is in full compliance with all federal, state and university regulations.

Required Qualifications 


  1. Master's Degree business administration or a related field, or equivalent management experience in higher education.
  2. Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible management experience in financial aid administration or a related administrative area with at least three (3) years of direct supervisory experience.
  3. Experience in developing and managing different types of budgets (departmental, trust or auxiliary, financial aid, scholarship, etc.).
  4. Experience leading institution-wide initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  1. Familiarity with administrative software systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner, Datatel, etc.) and the critical role technology plays in planning, maintaining and assessing operations.
  2. Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with people in a highly diverse environment is required.
  3. Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program development, and resource allocation.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports as well as the capacity to analyze, comprehend, and provide appropriate solutions to problems and courses of action.


Ability to pass background check

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. Direct experience with administrative software system PeopleSoft
  2. Experience with process reengineering and the use of technology (e.g., imaging and workflow systems) to enhance processing.
  3. Experience in enrollment management strategies to student recruitment, student retention, and graduation.
  4. Experience with outcomes-based assessment of financial aid programs.
  5. Involvement in professional associations and organizations
