Position Summary

The Department Coordinator (ASC II) provides administrative and clerical support through successful coordination of projects, events, and activities while being cognizant of deadlines. Under general supervision of the Department Chair, the incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day office management. Other responsibilities include maintenance of Department financial records, review of University financial reports, and reconciliation of all Department accounts, course scheduling each semester, appointment notifications for part-time faculty, and hiring of student assistants.
This position requires an individual who is self-motivated, well organized, displays good judgement, interacts well with others, and maintains an optimistic, service-oriented outlook.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3440 - $5639 per month 

Hiring Range: Anticipated hiring range is $3,500 -$3,800 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Department Information 

The Geology Department is an academic department within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The Department offers numerous lecture and lab sections of a variety of lower-division courses covering general education requirements. The upper-division lecture, lab and field courses concentrate on the Geology major, fulfilling B.A., B.S. and M.S. degrees. There are currently eight full-time and several part-time faculty, and one technician in the department which serves about 100 Geology majors.

Minimum Qualifications 

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with related office work experience.

5. Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to work area
6. Ability to understand problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas
7. Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions
8. Ability to perform business math and track, analyze and accurately project budgetary and financial data
9. Ability to effectively write and present reports
10. Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels and handle highly sensitive interpersonal situations with constituents from diverse backgrounds
11. Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects
12. Ability to provide lead work direction, training, and guidance
13. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
14. Ability to maintain confidentiality
