Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Admissions & Outreach, the Admissions Evaluator Trainee applies CSU admission policies and Sacramento State precedents to review academic records. The incumbent assists in analyzing prospective student academic transcripts and other admission documents to determine admission eligibility and the acceptance of transfer credit toward meeting admission criteria.

The incumbent also represents the University to the general public at special events, providing information sessions and assistance to prospective students and parents. The Admissions Evaluator Trainee responds to questions from applicants, prospective students, high school and community college guidance personnel, and the general public on meeting admission requirements and available options. 

Upon completion of the training, the Admissions Evaluator Trainee is expected to be able to perform in virtually any campus evaluation unit in the Evaluator I classification with a minimum amount of supervision. Permanent status cannot be obtained in the Evaluator Trainee classification. Upon successful completion of the training program, Trainees are moved to the Evaluator I classification.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $ 3,449 - $ 4,181 per month 

Hiring Range: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications 

Knowledges and Abilities:

Knowledge of general office procedures, methods, and practices; knowledge of techniques used in processing information.

Ability to check complex records and detailed information for compliance with criteria; ability to be thorough and accurate in comparing records; ability to interpret and apply written regulations; and ability to maintain confidentiality of records and evaluations.

During training, the following knowledges and abilities must be acquired: ability to review and check transcripts, records and documents for compliance with criteria using specific guides; ability to interpret information from a variety of institutions, including foreign institutions with differing records systems; ability to interpret criteria for determining eligibility and substitutions or alternatives in granting credit for degrees.

Experience:

Equivalent to six months responsible experience involving academic, administrative, fiscal or statistical records processing and maintenance, OR two years of full-time college with course work specific to development of quantitative and analytical skills.

  5. Knowledge of and ability to use mathematical computations
  6. Ability to use high-level discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality in handling problems of a sensitive nature and security of confidential records
  7. Ability to work effectively and establish and maintain cooperative working relations with internal and external entities
  8. Working knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computer, laptop, copier, fax machine, scanner, and printer
  9. Demonstrated proficiency in ability to effectively use common computer application programs and related computer software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, database, internet) in the course of assigned duties

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  2. Experience in the analysis and application of academic regulations and procedures related to admissions
  3. Experience involving detailed work, including mathematical computations that require a high degree of accuracy
  4. Familiarity with online resources (i.e., College Source, AACRAO and Assist) and the Common Management System (CMS) or other student administration data system
  5. Experience working in a high production environment
