Position Summary

The Sacramento State CARES Office provides support to students who are in crisis or who are experiencing unique challenges to their education. The Office coordinates referrals to campus and community resources and offers follow-up support to address a variety of issues including, but not limited to, transportation barriers, mental health & wellness, and physical health & wellness.

Under the general direction of the Interim Director of the CARES Office the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the CARES Office, including the intake of students, recording and tracking of new cases, and administrative assistance with office operations and the administration of aid and other resources. The scope of work requires the incumbent to address and resolve various problems which require the interpretation of policies and procedures and the use of ingenuity to put information together in new ways. Work also requires the incumbent to collaborate with staff at all levels within the organization and maintain a good working relationship with the University Union, Facilities Management, Procurement and Contracts, Associated Students Inc., and other departments on campus.

FLSA: Non Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $ 3,276.00 - $ 5,148.00 per month

Hiring Range: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills and training.

Minimum Qualifications 

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Required Qualifications 

Experience:

  1. Experience coordinating logistics and/or administrative support functions
  2. Experience scheduling, organizing, and planning events
  3. Experience providing customer service

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  2. Demonstrated project management, time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage the details of multiple priorities
  3. Thorough knowledge of office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and packages
  4. Ability to apply independently a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist
  5. Ability to perform business math
  6. Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports
  7. Ability to effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts from diverse backgrounds, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature
  8. Ability to organize, plan, develop, and assist in designing and distributing event marketing and promotional materials (e.g. flyers, brochures, surveys, email communications, etc.)
  9. Proficiency with standard office programs (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) with the ability to perform accurate data entry using databases, and create presentations and other documents
  10. Ability to appropriately handle confidential materials

Conditions of Employment:

-            Ability to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. Experience working in an institution of higher education
  2. Knowledge of Common Management System (CMS), EAB or comparable student information system
