POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor in Rehabilitation Counselling 

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

POSITION DETAILS:  

Tenure Track, at rank of Assistant Professor (assuming an earned doctorate by Fall 2022). Salary is based on professional experiences and qualifications.

JOB DUTIES:

Supporting Student Success

This faculty position will directly meet academic goals to support student success including advocating and supporting anti-racism, equity, and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, and university service. This position will teach graduate level CACREP core courses as well as rehabilitation counseling concentration courses. In supporting our accreditation needs, this position will help improve our program learning outcomes and key performance indicators as evaluated through key signature assignments and dispositional evaluations. As part of this tenure track position, this faculty member will be actively contributing to faculty advising and mentoring around professional growth, licensure, certification, and gatekeeping in an effort to support student development. This faculty position will support accreditation and graduation, ensuring we are advising, mentoring, and retaining students and especially BIPOC students. The program offers an undergraduate Counseling Minor; therefore, this position may include some time allotted to advising undergraduate students seeking the minor and interested in pursuing their graduate degree. This position will help in admission efforts and will help in responding to prospective students interested in the program, aiding in recruiting a diverse student body, and optimizing progress to degree completion. Finally, this position will support the student advisory committee as each specialization has a student representative that helps support program evaluation, therefore recommending, supporting, and mentoring students in leadership opportunities is preferred.

Supporting anti-racist and inclusive campus

This faculty member will demonstrate a history of using innovative and inclusive teaching practices that infuse social justice, anti-racist, and culturally competent practices. This position will contribute to program evaluation and assessment that meet the standards of CACREP, BBS, and CTC and participate in ongoing program assessment that includes modifications necessary for infusing focused experiential and inclusive practices within both curriculum and graduate experiences. Therefore, familiarity with CACREP standards is preferred to help maintain our accreditation status. This new hire faculty member will work to ensure that our graduate EDC and undergraduate EDUC courses meet the anti-racist and inclusive university curriculum objectives. The new hire faculty position will help in building curriculum with an intersectionality lens that supports multiculturally competent practitioners, foster continual intersectional and interdisciplinary dialogue through brave spaces and inclusive spaces.

This faculty member will engage in course development; teaching; program/curriculum evaluation; assessment and accreditation, including evaluation and assessment of students in terms of Counseling Competencies, CACREP accreditation, BBS educational requirements, and WASC requirements. Furthermore, this position will mentor students in research and presentations that address multicultural competence at local, regional, and national conferences which may include the College of Education Multicultural Education Conference. This faculty member will help lead the MS Counseling Program and larger COE Graduate and Professional Studies Branch in supporting and developing diverse faculty to support the university goal of culturally competent curriculum and inclusive experience for faculty, staff, and community members in the College of Education, University, and larger Sacramento Community. This position will work with part-time faculty to provide mentoring to part-time faculty to support the university goal of anti-racist curriculum and inclusive practices that are consistent across various sections within core and rehabilitation courses. This faculty member will be working collegially and actively with faculty and staff in the Counselor Education program, Graduate and Professional Studies Programs as working collaboratively with our program area group inclusive of all specializations.

Supporting Anchor Institution Activities and Engagement

This faculty position has the opportunity to share their expertise with the community in various ways. This faculty member will help lead the MS Counseling Program and larger Sacramento community partners in professional development opportunities. The new hire will provide expertise in continuing education topics relevant to students, site-supervisors, and community members; activities include supervision training and other topics at our annual Professional Development Day each spring and at our annual Addiction Symposium. The faculty will engage actively with other faculty to create and implement program evaluation processes and collaborate on faculty teams to investigate issues such as training culturally competent practitioners, effective educational and admissions practices, multicultural competency in training and service provision, anti-racist practices, clinical training, therapy process and outcomes. The new hire will participate in our community advisory committee meetings that occur biannually to help in building partnerships and gathering feedback for program improvement. This position will provide practicum and field supervision for trainees, with gatekeeping and anti-racist practice that supports Rehabilitation students while keeping client welfare in mind. Furthermore, the position will assist the Field Work Coordinator identify new quality sites and develop partnerships that support fieldwork experiences. This new hire will contribute to the Anchor University Mission by participating in supervision out of our Center for Counseling and Diagnostic Services (CCDS) and will help in supporting and integrating services to and within the community. This new faculty hire will participate in program grant writing activities focused on training and community partnerships, and will contribute to our trauma and addiction certificate development. Furthermore, this position will mentor students in research and presentation opportunities at local, regional, and national conferences to build professional competencies within our graduate student body. This hire will help build national presence and exposure with mentoring students in activities such as the ACA Ethics Contest, CSI Essay Contest, potential study abroad opportunities, and other scholarly and writing opportunities. This faculty member will actively engage in research that has local, regional and national impact. The hire will contribute to professional development and advocacy efforts in support of the Anchor University Mission. This faculty member will attend faculty meetings, serve on Program, Branch, College, and University committees, and actively as engage in scholarly activity and involvement in community service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• An earned doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counselor Education, or closely related field from a CORE/CACREP accredited program. ABD candidates will be considered from CACREP accredited programs. If ABD, all requirements for the degree must be completed by August 2022.

• Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. Teaching effectiveness can be demonstrated through a variety of ways including service learning, integration of prior clinical experience, distance learning, and creation of culturally responsive environments.

• Demonstrated ability and commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds as evidenced by scholarly pursuits, teaching evaluations, and letters of recommendations.

• Demonstrated experience with inclusive, anti-racist practices, social-justice and equity work, within research, presentations, or work with students.

• Demonstrated knowledge of and professional and/or research experience with children, adolescents, adults, and/or families from diverse backgrounds.

• Thorough knowledge of the theoretical, professional, and practical dimensions of the biopsychosocial model.

• Commitment to working successfully with a diverse post-secondary student population.

• Demonstrated Counselor Education identity as evidenced by professional practice, active participation in counseling professional organizations, and research.

• Currently licensed in California or home state, or eligible to become licensed in California.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Rehabilitation Counseling experience is preferred, but those with broader clinical counseling or addiction experience, will be considered, and are encouraged to apply.

• Experience working as a rehabilitation counselor or experience with individuals with disabilities and diverse populations.

• Personal and professional commitment to multicultural education, diversity, and social justice.

• Experience working with graduate students in instruction, supervision, mentoring, and research- related activities.

• Specialized knowledge and experience related to individual and group counseling; multicultural counseling; collaborative consultation;
assessment in counseling; counseling theory; addiction counseling; crisis and/or trauma counseling; and organization, administration,
and supervision of students working in counseling, psychotherapy, and rehabilitation counseling positions.

• Knowledge related to trends and issues in rehabilitation counseling.

• Involvement in rehabilitation counseling and professional counseling associations (e.g., ACA, ARCA, NCRE).

• Currently have or eligible to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the State of California.

• Experience with CACREP, CRC, LPCC, or statewide accreditation/licensure processes.

• Evidence of strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

• Successful applicants will have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and students in service to the community focusing on growth and well-being of people and the communities. Service examples focus on challenging power differentials and uplifting the needs of others first.

• The department seeks candidates with the ability to work with culturally diverse students and colleagues; success in creating inclusive classrooms; and experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.

• Currently have or eligible to become a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) within first year of hire
